Godwin Hughes, Age 35
June 4, 1395

As the Pope, I have a lot of responsibilities. Religion in this time period is especially important. After the rule of the Roman empire ended, the Catholic Church become very powerful and kings, queens and monarchs all found refuge and became allies of the church to gain even more power. People must pay a 10% tax to the Church, but I don't have to pay it as I am part of the church! Many people are unhappy with the way that the societal system is because they're views do not align with the Church's but, we have the power. The fight over religion sometimes leads to wars and conflicts and may cause deaths which is bad for our people. Some doubt me, as the pope, but I must lead these people with religion!

Life as a Knight is quite interesting. I spend most of my life training, and fighting off enemies. I am always ready for battle. One of the main problems in this time period of the middle ages, are the diseases. Recently a new illness has broken out, people are calling it the "Black Plague" or the "Black Death" because people are dying left and right. Because of the hygiene being poor and cleanliness being rare, many diseases have taken over the continent. Almost one-third of the population in Europe has been eradicated due to the "Black Death", I hope that I do not become a victim. Well, it's back to the training. *cough* I should check that out later. Thank thee for listening!

It's another hard day living in Europe in the 14th Century. I just snuck out of my field in which I was working to write this down. You see, we have a feudalism system here. Feudalism is a system of government used in the medieval times. The King or the Monarch gives land (called fiefs) to nobles or bishops. Peasants had to work on these pieces of land, but were given protection and a place to live. I belong to a peasant family and we all must work day in and out, laboring on the land. We do not have much power as much of it belongs to the church and the king. The Noble who owns the land was kind and is generous enough to take good care of us. We live on this land and are protected when enemies may invade or attack us. It's time to get back to work on the land. Have thy good day!
